The coffee was excellent, and the donuts were even better.
This place was fantastic! Amazing coffee and great donuts. Prices were very reasonable as well. Service was awesome, the folks behind the counter even gave me some hiking recommendations. If you're in Boone, it's tough to beat this coffee spot.
Freshly roasted coffee I mean like you can watch it being roasted and then brewed! Service is great the donuts are tasty the atmosphere is so sweet. I’m praying the Holy Spirit come rest on this place and it be a morning sanctuary for peace. What a great way to start the day Christ & Coffee
I graduated AppState in 2021 and came back for a visit. The Local Lion never disappoints! The staff is always wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. I recommend the Bee Balm, Queen Anne's Lace, and the Turtle coffees. The Maple donuts are awesome, but the Sugar and Cinnamon donuts are the best! Very fluffy and filling! The Local Lion has a very chill atmosphere, inside and out. Completely stress free. With plenty of seating and tables, it's a calm place to work and talk. The mugs are made by an Appalachian State University allumni who graduated in 2016, who was a barista here. Very impressive craftsmanship.
Been coming here for years since the earlies! Josiah has done wonders with the place and very consistent. Smokey Mountain Bakers family recommended this place a long time ago, and it doesn't disappoint. Also, I want to give Gabby or is it Gabbie?! An awesome shout out! She was super sweet, and had great conversation with her!
We love going to the Local Lion whenever we're in the Boone area! We love the Donuts & other goodies & the coffee. It's a beautiful place to have coffee & a light breakfast or a mid day coffee break. ☕️ They have their own (free) parking lot & they have a drive-through. We love to bring our dog & have our coffee & Donuts outside on the lovely covered patio! Awesome place, great staff & service too.
We were visiting Boone and told about the gluten free doughnuts every Friday. We stopped in and they were AMAZING!! I had not enjoyed a doughnut in many years so this was a special treat!! My family also had their regular doughnuts which were delicious as well!! If you're in Boone I definitely suggest swinging into Local Lion for a doughnut or some doughnut holes!!!
Always a local favortie of mine that I am reluctant to share for the fear that they will get too popular! The coffee is good, I recommend getting the pour over if you have time. The donuts are too die for, the kids absolutely love the Bavarian Cream ones. A favorite trick of mine is to quickly dip the cinnamon sugar cake ones into your coffee it's a bit of heaven on earth.

A special shout-out to Ingrid, who is an absolute sweetheart and made me feel so welcome from the moment I walked in. I kept it simple with a regular coffee with room for cream, but then I spotted their cinnamon buns... and let's be honest—I have a habit of trying cinnamon buns everywhere I go! By the time I got there, they were nearly sold out, which is always a good sign. I snapped a few photos of the other baked treats, and trust me, it took every bit of self-control not to order one of everything. 😄 Whether you're grabbing a coffee to go or picking up pastries to bring home to family and friends, this is a great stop while you're exploring Boone. Fun fact: if you're a fan of Venture Chocolate & Wine on King Street, you'll love knowing it's owned by the same husband-and-wife team. I admire their entrepreneurial spirit and how they've created beloved local businesses. It's easy to see why Local Lion is so popular. The parking lot is almost always full, and it's not just because of the coffee. People come here to relax, catch up with friends, work, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
